Figure 4 Components of construction waste (EPA, 2010) As the population of the United States continues to increase, and older structures are demolished for economic purposes, the amount of construction is also expected to grow. In order to avoid all of the environmental issues associated with the current lack of landfill space, concrete recycling is becoming very popular. This concrete, which results from the demolition of structures and roadways are recycled and reused. Many environmental and economic advantages are associated with using recycled aggregates. First of all, using recycled aggregates can reduce the carbon footprint of a building. It also represents an alternative method of reducing landfill waste flow. Moreover, the use of RAC can ease the process of qualifying for LEED credits. In roadways projects, recycled aggregates provide better compaction capabilities, and offers superior performance than conventional aggregates. Finally, recycled aggregates have lower unit weight values than conventional aggregates resulting in a considerable reduction in material costs. Similarly to natural aggregates, recycled aggregates can be crushed into various shapes and sizes. Fines particles of recycled aggregates can be 17PDF Image | HDPE FIBER REINFORCED RECYCLED AGGREGATE CONCRETE
