1.1 Introduction CHAPTER ONE – INTRODUCTION Civil Engineering is the root of all human civilization and has been instrumental to its evolution since early history. Dating back between 3000-200 BC in Ancient Egypt and Mesopotamia, the contribution of the civil engineering discipline in the world is immense. Some of Civil engineering’s most famous inputs include the construction of the Pyramids of Egypt in 2700 BC, the Parthenon in ancient Greece (447 BC), the Appian Way in the old Roman Empire (312 BC), the great Walls of China (220 BC) and many more. With time, the world’s communal problems have become very intricate. As a result, Civil Engineers regularly have to turn to science, technology and most importantly logical thinking to come up with ethical and long-lasting solutions to these issues. One arising problem in today’s society is the increase in the generation of plastic waste, which causes huge pollution dilemmas. And because of its low market value, recycling of plastic products is apparently not beneficial. Hence, the proportion of plastics recycled in the world is very minimal. For instance, only 5-10% of plastic products used today are recycled; and unfortunately, the construction industry is one of the areas that most largely contribute to this growing issue. 1PDF Image | HDPE FIBER REINFORCED RECYCLED AGGREGATE CONCRETE
